Declination line and tones variati

چکیده
Chinese is a tone language. As a tone language, each lexical item has an inherent tone pattern. In Chinese there are four tones : high, rising, low and falling. Our experiment investigates first the pattern of declination in Standard Chinese broadcasts and TV news speech, secondly the interaction of this effect with the sentence lenght and finally the evolution of the tones F0 values all through the sentence. Futhermore, we have investigated the prosodic structure of the newscast discourse.

Tone Distribution and Its Effect on Subglottal Pressure during Speech
The current work is part of a project to characterize the subglottal pressure (Ps) contour associated with a spoken utterance in terms of the distribution of pitch accents and of phrase and boundary tones. It is found that the nuclear pitch accent does not define the start of the termination phase; the utterance offset is a better marker. Declination rate of the working phase and its relation t...
متن کاملTone, Utterance Length and F0 Scaling
One important strand of research into the scaling of fundamental frequency has been concerned with the hypothesis that utterance length is a determining factor of initial pitch height, with longer utterances involving a higher initial F0 than that found in shorter utterances. Most work in this vein has been done on ‘intonation’ languages, with very little investigation having been carried out o...
متن کاملTonal Invariance and Downtrend in Cantonese
Studies of downtrend have reported that accents/tones are realised at progressively lower F0 values during an utterance. Listeners are reported to compensate for such F0 variations over time( Pierrehumbert 1979). Underlying the downtrend studies is the assumption that the phonological categories under investigation are invariant over time and that declination can be factored out of the quantita...
متن کاملClassification of Thai Tone Sequences in Syllable-Segmented Speech Using the Analysis-by-Synthesis M - Speech and Audio Processing, IEEE Transactions on
Tone classification is important for Thai speech recognition because tone affects the lexical identification of words. An analysisby-synthesis algorithm for classifying Thai tones in syllable-segmented speech is presented that uses an extension to Fujisaki’s model for tone languages that incorporates tonal assimilation and declination. The classifier correctly identifies all of the tones in 89....
متن کاملPitch accent scaling on given, new and focused constituents in German
The influence of information structure on tonal scaling in German is examined experimentally. Eighteen speakers uttered a total of 2277 sentences of the same syntactic structure, but with a varying number of constituents, word order and focus-given structure. The quantified results for German support findings for other Germanic languages that the scaling of high tones, and thus the entire melod...
